Stitch Fix: December 2015 – Fix #4

All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this post.

Since I am still trying for some season-specific items, I again went with an immediate Fix delivery. Note: I am about 3 weeks late on this review/reveal.

First, if you aren’t familiar with Stitch Fix, it’s a super affordable personal styling service for women.  Why use it?  Maybe you are too busy to spend much time shopping for yourself, maybe you’re fashion-impaired, like me, or maybe you just really like surprises!  It’s really cool because while you may have a stylist shopping for you, you still have a lot of input and control over what they select for you.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Complete your personal Style Profile – It’s pretty quick, but very thorough.

Step 2: Schedule your Fix – You’ll be able to schedule your fixes as needed, intermittently, or set up auto-shipments on a regular basis.  There is a $20 Styling Fee charged when your stylist selects items for your Fix, which also goes toward any purchases from the Fix.

Step 3: Try the 5 pieces on in YOUR home – in comfort and under real-life lighting!  The biggest bonus is that you have access to your entire wardrobe!

Step 4: Purchase what you like, return the rest – You have three days from receipt to decide what to keep and what to return.  Stitch Fix provides a pre-paid mailer bag that you can fill, seal, and drop in a USPS mailbox!  Note: If you keep all five items, you’ll get 25% off the entire shipment!

Step 5: Provide feedback – your opinion on all of the items in the Fix is important, this helps your stylist to improve your next Fix selections.

Now for the reveal!

For my 4th Fix my Stylist was Jasmine.  Based on my previous Fix results and my ever more specific comments, I really had my Stylist Notes whittled down to as straight-to-the-point as I could get them.  I had requested specific items and made some specific color/pattern requests.  Let’s see how that turned out…

Item 1:
Look By M: Sammie Plaid Infinity Scarf (Off-White)
Size: N/A
Price: $34.00

Style: Love
Fit/Cut: Like

I requested a plaid scarf (but I wrote PLAID, to be specific) in Fall colors, and Jasmine came through!  I have this scarf pinned in various colors and it really is beautiful in both color and material.  I had one major problem though…

It choked me.  Remember I’m a tall/broad girl with a thick neck?  Yeah, when looped this scarf was terribly uncomfortable and pretty impossible to get to lay correctly.  Even if the diameter of the infinity loop had been a bit longer, I still felt the price was a bit high for this thin-material scarf.  Otherwise, this was exactly what I was looking for!

Verdict: Returned

Item 2:
Market & Spruce: Talena Side Zipper Knit Top (Teal Green)
Size: XL
Price: $48.00

Style: Like
Fit/Cut: Just OK

This top is called “Teal Green” but I would call it “Teal Blue” (it didn’t photograph well on the hanger).  It is asymmetrical with one side zippered & ruched.  This was terribly unflattering on me – it looks like a maternity top, which is a huge NO-NO.  I love the color, but I also have tons of thin material shirts in this color.  This material was also very soft.  I forgot to check the tag for specifics.

I had tight arm problems with this top, as with so many others.  This was just not me at all.  I’m generally not into asymmetry as a rule.  I also felt the price was too high on this item.

Verdict: Returned

Item 3:
41Hawthorn: Abrianna Longsleeve Knit Cardigan (Burnt Orange)
Size: XL
Price: $48.00

Style: Love
Fit/Cut: Love

Finally the bright Fall color I’ve been asking for!  I super love this orange color for Fall.  The material is also nice & light, perfect for layering.

Zero complaints about this piece, it fit well (in the photos I’m wearing long sleeves, when I typically wear tanks with cardigans), and the price point was perfect for the style/material/quality.  This cardigan fits perfectly into my closet!  I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet, but will soon for sure.

Verdict: Kept!

Item 4:
Skies Are Blue: Hernandez Pointelle Detail Pullover Sweater (Dark Green)
Size: XL
Price: $68.00

Style: Love
Fit/Cut: Like

This is a great pointelle detail sweater! I really like this style because they are thinner and I can wear a tank underneath (pretty much required anyway) without sweating to death.  This was 100% Acrylic and quite soft.

My only complaint is that it was too small, one size up and it would have been a two-thumbs-up choice for me.

However, even if it had fit  well, I wouldn’t have kept it because I have three other green sweaters/tunics in my closet right now, including the Mossimo top shown above, which is also nearly see-through.

Verdict: Returned

Item 5:
41Hawthorn: Presley Colorblock Button-Back Sweater (Coral)
Size: XL
Price: $68.00

Style: Like
Fit/Cut: Like

This sweater is to die for!  I absolute adore the color combo of coral & cream – they are so subtly feminine and perfect.  I also really liked the colorblock print and the button-up back, such a fun & unexpected detail!  Unfortunately, this piece had several issues…

First, it was too tight in three obvious places: arms, hips, & shoulders.  Why, oh why, must I be an Amazon!?!?!

Next, it was “hand wash only” – which I lovingly refer to as “not gonna happen.” Finally, it was only 20% Wool, but oh-so-incredibly ITCHY!  I could not wait to take it off, my arms were screaming at me.

Verdict: Returned

Final Thoughts: There were some hits & misses here, but overall I really felt Jasmine did a better job than the others at listening to me and reviewing my Pinterest board to make the best selections.  I requested a specific pair of olive pants and indicated not to send any pants if those were not available.  Obviously they weren’t available, but I’ll keep holding out for those.  I have requested to keep Jasmine for my next Fix, so we’ll see how she does on Round 2 for Fix #5!

Fun News!!! I follow more than 30 other Stitch Fix bloggers and several of those regularly hold gift card giveaways, which I of course enter.  And…I won!  Now I have a little extra Stitch Fix mad money going into my birthday month Fix…fingers crossed!

Enough from me, what do you think?  Did I keep/return the right items?  More importantly, are you ready to try Stitch Fix out for yourself?!?!  I’d love for you to use my referral link, as I’ll get a $25 credit towards my Fixes when your first Fix ships.  Please let me know if you have any questions/comments for me – I’d love to hear from you!
