Stitch Fix: April 2016 – Fix #8

All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this post.

Summer is coming…! And so is Game of Thrones, but let’s talk about clothes first!

First, if you aren’t familiar with Stitch Fix, check out this post!

Now for the reveal!

IMG_20160408_162316011

For my 8th Fix I retained Jasmine, as I felt we were building a relationship and she was really getting me and helping me explore within my comfort level.  For this fix I asked for 2-3 pairs of white pants (listing specific brands/styles I was interested in trying), navy dress pants, and tops in different brands than I’ve received before since I’m having fit issues with tops.  Let’s see how that turned out…

Item 1:
41Hawthorn: Lucida Colorblock Knit Dress (Navy)
Size: XL
Price: $68.00

Let’s just get this sad piece out of the way first.  I hate this dress.  I hate the shape, I hate the colors, I hate the length and I hate the material.  What irritated me most of all about this item is that my profile is marked “No dresses” and “No pink” and mentions that I prefer to keep my knees covered (in addition to past feedback about skirt length), so I’m not sure what compelled Jasmine to send this awful thing.

Verdict: Returned

**PSA:  Many people would say something like “Sorry about my pasty legs!” or “I need to get some sun!” but I will never say that, nor should any of you.  This is healthy skin.  I am fair skinned, fair haired & light eyed – all of which increases my risk of skin cancer, not to mention having a history of cancer in my family.  Our culture needs to stop beautifying unnaturally darkened skin.**

Item 2:
Pixley: Avah Knit Top (Light Green)
Size: XL
Price: $58.00

This is the first top in a long time that fit me! It wasn’t perfect, but it was probably the second best item in this Fix.  The material was very soft, but it looked like it would start to pill immediately.  Although it went well with these navy pants (reviewed later on), I have more regionally & seasonally appropriate options that cost far less.

IMG_20160408_163856072_HDR

For instance, this Style & Co. top from Macy’s is a silky material and I paid less than $30 for it.  I can also get extremely similar, but superior tops from LuLaRoe for $35 – which I stated in my feedback.

Verdict: Returned

Item 3:
Liverpool: Jordyn Bootcut Pant (Navy)
Size: 14/32
Price: $88.00

I loved these pants! They were nice and long, a great material, and had an elastic waist.  The boot cut style went really well with my heels, too!  Unfortunately, they were too tight.  They mostly look okay in the pictures, but I assure you they were SO tight.  I think I have a paper cut on my left hip from the tags!

If this were the late 70’s I’d be styling, but alas… I contacted Stitch Fix Customer Service to see if they had a larger size in stock, but they did not.  I will be keeping my eye out for similar navy pants in the future.  I found this style (called Kimberly) on Amazon, but they don’t have navy at the moment.

Verdict: Returned

Item 4:
Papermoon: Norris Split Neck Blouse (Navy)
Size: XL
Price: $44.00

This top had tons of potential out of the box.  It is sleeveless and made of a sheer material but colored dark enough that I don’t need a camisole under it.  But again… It. Did. Not. Fit.  The chest, back and underarms were all tight, as you can see by the stretch of the pattern in the picture on the right, above.

IMG_20160408_164759940   IMG_20160408_164750523

This tightness caused this weird ‘pooching’ of the material on my back.

And rounding out this disastrous Fix is this monstrosity.  It looks stupid just hanging there like that, and folding it over doesn’t improve the situation.  Need I say that I hate it?  I’ve seen it in other reviews and people seem to love it.  I always hoped Stitch Fix would never send it to me.  In fact, my profile says “No left-to-right asymmetry.”  FAIL.

IMG_20160408_165000687   IMG_20160408_165011067

This is described as a cardigan, but is more of a jacket.  It has the cheapest zipper I’ve ever seen on such a pricey piece of clothing.  I couldn’t zip it up while I had it on, so I just demonstrated what it would look like if it were zipped.

IMG_20160408_165021065

Oh, hey, it has pockets!  Whatever.

Verdict: Returned

Final Thoughts: As you can see, my 8th Fix was my first 0/5.  Once I found out that they didn’t have the pants in my size, I did consider keeping the Pixley top.  However, the fact remains that I can get a better top elsewhere for less money.  If I had kept it I would have been out an additional $38.00 plus 9.75% tax on the whole $58.00, for a total around $44.00.  I can get an similar style, but superior quality top from LuLaRoe for around $41.00 shipped.  It was no contest.  I decided to forfeit the $20.00 styling fee.

I’ve seen other reviewers complain about an entire Fix because it didn’t feel like their style, which is debatable.  I think that my negative feelings about this Fix are pretty legitimate, first and foremost, because 2/5 items were in direct violation of the preferences stated in my profile, which is a Stylists job to follow/reference.  Additionally, my main request of 2-3 pairs of white pants was not only ignored, but it wasn’t even acknowledged or explained in the note from Jasmine, which was notably very short.  She mentioned something else that was in my Stylist Notes, so I know she read them.  It feels like she was rushing and not paying much attention, which this Fix certainly reflects.

IMG_20160408_170536358

That being said, I’ve decided that I am not going to be ordering anymore Fixes for the time being – possibly ever, unless Stitch Fix expands their sizing into Talls, which I told them in my feedback.

Sorry
Um, no.

Since I discovered LuLaRoe, I’m much more impressed with the clothing and feel like I’m getting better value and service for what I’m paying.  Speaking of money, LuLaRoe is also more affordable than Stitch Fix.  If you aren’t familiar with LuLaRoe, or need another place to get your favorite pieces from, please check out my friend Rhiannon’s LuLaRoe Online Sales shop!  Rhiannon is a wonderful, helpful consultant who will answer any question you have and help you determine your size in something if you are unsure.

Another thing I love about LuLaRoe is that you have professional options as well as casual ones! This is one of my first XL Cassie skirts.  Look at those lovely covered knees.  *SWOON*

Don’t get me wrong, Stitch Fix has been a valuable experience for me.  I’ve really learned more about my own style, fine tuning what I like and what I don’t.  I have a better idea of what does and does not work for me, and I’ve gained the confidence to try new things and look at things in stores I might not have in the past.  I’ve also discovered new brands of pants that I love (Liverpool & Kut From The Cloth)!  Stitch Fix served a great purpose for a time, but I’m ready to take control of my clothing selection.

If you would like to try the Stitch Fix service out for yourself, feel free to use my referral link, as I’ll get a $25 credit towards my Fixes when your first Fix ships.

Enough from me, what do you think?  Please let me know if you have any questions/comments for me – I’d love to hear from you!

Stitch Fix: March 2016 – Fix #7

All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this post.

IMG_20160315_143758420

SPRING! Need I say more?  It was finally sunny outside when I got this box and took my pictures.  So. Much. JOY!

First, if you aren’t familiar with Stitch Fix, check out this post!

Now for the reveal!

IMG_20160315_143907943

This is my 7th Fix and I have been sticking with Jasmine to build a relationship and get better Fixes.  I don’t think they have ever been bad, but I mean they are more personalized as she learns my style and my needs.  For this Fix I had mentioned a particular style of KFTK pants I want (in Olive!) or any jeans in a medium/dark wash, a navy blazer, noted I’m still looking for bright, fun colors, and mentioned that I’d like jewelry that I have pinned on my board.  Let’s see how Jasmine did…

Item 1:
Romolo: Allister Beaded Layering Necklace (Turquoise)
Size: N/A

I loved the length of this piece, it was perfect.  I also liked the beading (click the above picture for a better look!).  However, I hate gold jewelry.  As in, I own NONE.  I did mention I prefer silver, but that may not have been a strong enough message (I have fixed this).  This was also not on my Pinterest board, but wasn’t too far from an item that was, so I’ll give her half credit for that.

Verdict: Returned

Item 2:
Olive & Oak: Ganesa Crew Neck Blouse (Mint)
Size: XL
Price: $44.00

This is another one of those sad items.  I 110% was in love with the colors – it has a great geo pattern in mint with the navy stripes on white.  I also loved the style and material – even the little keyhole in the back.  Again, I had fit issues – it was just cut too small and was tight across the chest, back, and under my arms, as you can see in the pictures.

Verdict: Returned

Item 3:
Kensie: Tayah Boyfriend Blazer (Navy is what the card said, but it is Royal)
Size: XL
Price: $98.00

I had asked for a Kensie Rebecca blazer, but got the Tayah instead, which is fine.  I liked the blazer and I definitely want a navy blazer, but this one isn’t going to work.  The color was royal blue, not navy, for one thing.  It photographed just a bit darker than in person, but trust me, my school colors were royal blue and silver, so I know royal blue when I see it.  Next, FIT.  The blazer was too tight in the arms and shoulders for me to move comfortably.  I see now that the photo makes it look like it was tight across my midsection, but it was not, it’s just a one-button style.  It did have a great silky gingham lining that you could see if I had rolled the sleeves up a little, but alas, I did not.  Side Note: I tried on Kensie blazers at Macy’s recently and believe I need a 2X for shoulder comfort, which I’ll probably have to order.

Verdict: Returned

The only thing I liked about this top was the light, cool fabric and the earth tone colors.  The print and style of the shirt are Boho/Tribal-ish, which is not my style or taste.  I didn’t like the split in the back either – it added nothing to this shirt.  Again, there were also fit issues – it was too tight across my chest, back and underarms.

Verdict: Returned

I requested this style in olive, but since that color wasn’t available she sent this style in the denim wash I requested.  I’ve always heard that KFTK are great jeans, and that’s no lie!  These are fantastic jeans with the right amount of stretch and this is such a great wash for my taste!  I thought I could have used these in a 16, but as I am doing a light weight-loss regimen and have shed a few pounds, I felt these would probably just fit even better and will be a favorite for a long while.  I am wearing these jeans in all of the photos in this post.

Side Note: I did purchase the same style (called Diana outside of Stitch Fix) in a darker wash in size 16 from Amazon for $55. They are also great but look less like a ‘skinny’ with a looser leg and may require a belt before long, so I’m super glad I kept these from SF!

Verdict: Kept

Final Thoughts: My 7th fix was another 1/5.  Again, not because I didn’t like the items but because I have fit issues being at the top of their sizing scale.  If fit were not an issue I think this would have been 3/5 (the blazer and the mint blouse with the jeans).  I’m confident that as we explore different brands and styles I’ll find more things that work, and I know from her notes to me that Jasmine is mindful and helping me with that.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love that SF keeps my shopping brain busy and my body out of stores each month as I anticipate its arrival!  BTW, have you heard?? Stitch Fix is now offering shoes nationwide, so I might just request a pair in my next Fix…

Enough from me, what do you think?  Did I keep/return the right items?  More importantly, are you ready to try Stitch Fix out for yourself?!?!  I’d love for you to use my referral link, as I’ll get a $25 credit towards my Fixes when your first Fix ships.  Please let me know if you have any questions/comments for me – I’d love to hear from you!

I forgot to take a picture of the box before I opened it, so this one is from last month when I had a very interested puppy.

Once again, I forgot to open the blinds when I took my pictures (it was dark & rainy anyway), so the colors didn’t come out so well.  I promise I have learned that lesson for March, sorry!

I stuck with Jasmine for my 6th Fix and I was not disappointed!  Again I asked for more color, and for skirts to wear to work (with a length stipulation).  I also asked for a specific leather tote for work.

Item 1:

Absolutely everything about this skirt was perfect, except for the price.  I hadn’t looked at the price sheet yet and was all set to keep it, and then huge disappointment set in.  Honestly, I loved the skirt, but I do not think it is worth the price tag – more like $58.00, as it was almost a sweatshirt material and on the thin side.  (The length was pretty great at about 29.5″.)

Note: I admittedly had this skirt pinned on my Pinterest board, but didn’t know the price of it – which is a hazard of pinning.  I indicated in my feedback that I need to stick to my budget and my specified price points.

There’s not really anything special about this top.  I did like it, but the material really isn’t great for TN Summers – it was sweater-ish.

As I was considering keeping the skirt at this point (w/o looking at the price), I felt I had a more comfortable top to wear in this one below from Old Navy (just like the plum top I wore in my 1st Fix pics).

Note: My Pinterest board has a few pins that literally say “HATE” on them with some details about what I don’t like.  This lace detail trend is one of the things I do not like and have pinned with notes.  I have also updated my profile since this Fix to indicate “no lace.”

Aside from not liking the lace detail AT ALL, I loved both the color and material of this top.  This is a perfect fabric for TN Summers.  The color is one that I have been aching to see all along and I’m so glad I finally got to see it!  The price for this top was right on point.  However, like so many others, this shirt did not fit in the shoulders and was very tight across my bust. You can see in the front picture how it hangs straight off of my bust all the way down.

Once again I got an outerwear piece I didn’t ask for and don’t need.  I already own a denim jacket which I love, and I HATE this dark wash.  Jasmine had indicated in her notes that she was building outfits around the skirt and this added the fun night out aspect – which I can see.  It really isn’t my personal taste, however.  It also didn’t fit, in really odd ways.  The arms were plenty long, almost too long.  The waist was super short, which I really don’t like.  And, of course the upper arms and shoulders were super tight – there was no buttoning this jacket!

This is the tote that I requested, only a variation.  The one I preferred was solid color white/camel reversible, seen here.  This one is camel/black and black solid reversible.  Both versions include the separate matching bag.  Regardless of the color combo, I like this a lot and it will be the perfect professional tote for work that I was looking for.

Final Thoughts: I went 1/5 on my 6th Fix, but would have gone 2/5 if not for the price of that skirt!  Unlike last Fix, I wasn’t terribly happy with the four clothing items when I first pulled them out of the box, but then once I read Jasmine’s note with her ideas and started trying things on I was much more interested in them (still not the denim jacket).  I am sticking with Jasmine, as I am building a trust with her, which is helpful.  I’m still totally invested in this service for now, even though all of my Fixes have been 1/5.  For me, this is mainly due to fit issues, as I am at the tip top of their sizing.  But for an average or even small person, there is just so much variety available.  They even carry petite and maternity sizing!  I have also found that the anticipation of my monthly Fix is keeping me out of the stores, which is a major plus!

BONUS UPDATE: Remember these pants from Fix #3?  I had been watching them on Amazon and on Feb 14 they were on sale for $44.12, which is half off of the original price!  I had to jump on that sale – I was so on the fence about buying them in the first place.  I bought them in the larger 16/33 size than the 14/32 that was sent in my Fix and they fit just perfectly!  I’m so pleased I kept an eye on those!

This was a surprise item, as I have noted I don’t want outerwear/everyday-wear jackets.  Jasmine called this a ‘blazer’ in her note, but it is definitely similar to a hoodie, as it is a high-quality sweatshirt material.  That being said, I had been looking for something to wear in the warm/cold transition, and this really fits the bill.  I just wore it out to the Orpheum Theatre last week and it was perfect in the cool, drizzly evening!

Opinion:
Style: Like It
Fit/Cut: Just OK

I have in my profile that I don’t like White items.  While this is labeled Off-White, I’d call it Oatmeal.  Regardless, this sweater does nothing for me and wasn’t terribly comfortable.  Also, seeing as it was already mid-January and I hadn’t worn a sweater once (aside from a sweater dress once), I don’t think I need to invest in any sweaters while I live in TN.  I updated my profile to say that.

Opinion:
Style: Love It
Fit/Cut: Hate It

On me, this was a mini skirt, not a pencil skirt.  I’m tall and at the 19.5″ of this skirt I was allllll legs – pasty, white legs.  I loved the colors and the crochet detail, they are very me – not too girly.  I also think the sizing on this skirt is off, it was more of a Large than XL – which is why you don’t get to see a front view!

I have pencil skirts of more appropriate lengths for me, like the one below.  I updated my notes to say I need something more like this at approximately 25″.

Verdict: Returned

Final Thoughts: For my 5th Fix I went 1/5 again, which is perfectly fine.  I really did splurge on my new jacket, but I really like it – the one snap closure is just so comfortable (especially after a dinner out!).  Jasmine is definitely trying, and listening, which is great.  I was interested in everything she selected, and if not for fit issues this would have been a 4/5 Fix!  I didn’t see as much color variation in this Fix as I would have liked, so I’m looking forward to that in my next Fix.  However, #POINTS for sending me something in my favorite color!
